Overmodeled Skull


In some areas of the middle Sepik region in Papua New Guinea people decorate the skulls of relatives, beautiful people or enemies and use these for fertility or initiation rites. The skulls are dried, and processed with clay, lime and oil, and adorned with cowrie shells and fibers.
