Bell-47D1 Helicopter

The Bell-47D1 Helicopter, designed by Arthur M. Young, is the first helicopter to be certified - in 1946 - for civilian use.  Its construction, including the iconic acrylic bubble canopy that gave it a nickname "bug-eyed helicopter" and an exposed tail boom, earned it permanent display status at the Museum of Modern Art.
